Vermont: Getting to Y: a youth YRBS Analysis Project

Student and adult teams at four-to-six Vermont high schools per year analyze their local Youth Risk Behavior Survey data, develop an action plan, host a community dialogue night, and implement this plan with community involvement. The teams’ work and learning are presented at a state-wide spring conference.

As a result of participation in this project, communication between parents and schools has improved, school-community partnerships have strengthened, youth have a stronger voice for change and real changes are happening. For example, in one Vermont high school, students are now directly involved in the revision and expansion of their district’s middle school sexuality curriculum.
